Happier Kinder Safer Communities

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. Martin Luther King

Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside." Ramana Maharshi

In today's rush, we all think too much - seek too much - want too much - and forget about the joy of just being. - Eckhart Tolle

"When we get too caught up in the world, we loose connection with one another - and ourselves. - Jack Kornfield

Mindful Driving teaches simple methods to increase mindfulness in modern life. We use the breath to journey deep inside of ourselves and talk a lot about the science behind the way the breath helps to calm the body and mind to feel better, become more mindful.and come home to yourself. And it is this part of the self that desires peace, harmony and wellbeing for all. The other part of the self can be called the ego. The Ego is the part of us that is defensive and reactive to things others say and do. It wants to please others or fight others, It wants to be right, good, seen and heard. It is a competitive part that wants to win at all costs. Its the part of us that struggles, Mindfulness connects us with the deeper part of ourselves. It can connect us instantly if we let go of what we think we should be doing and just slip into breath without wanting to be anything, do anything or impress anyone, These mindfulness practices have come from teachings that are thousands of years old. 10 thousand years ago it was fashionable to meditate, isolate and spend time going inside, getting to know the higher self.

Have you ever studies history and noticed that sometimes a powerful movement comes to counteract another powerful change? Well, here we are in a time when peoples level of success is often determined by how much they buy, how many followers they have or how they look. So it has seen a lot of people working long hours in exchange for their peace of mind, to pay off a mortgage for a home full of stuff that was only invented in the last 100 years. Too many people Iknow are stuck on the treadmill of earning to live, but not really living because stress and illness interfere with every moment of the day. Do you relate?

Mindfulness helps us to return home to ourselves. It decreases the stress hormones and increases the good feeling hormones to instantly reduce reactivity and increase compassion. This is great on the roads as it means rather than tooting at someone whom does you wrong, you may just shrug and admit you make mistakes sometimes too. So if just one person in a community becomes more Mindful, kinder and less reactive then that is a win for all of us as our community becomes safer, And if 10% of the community goes through this change then it becomes something that we can notice on our roads through the community. We know that one rotten orange can rot the whole bag. So too one rotten driver can ripple out and infect others. One good driver may go unseen, but 10% is enough o be seen, heard and appreciated.
